FAQ

Dairy One has a comprehensive list of fact sheets explaining how to take a good sample, understanding forage reports and more.

How much sample do I need to send?

We use only about 4oz (100g) of sample here in the lab.  You can send more and we will reduce it. The important thing is to send material that will be a good “Representative” for the bulk of the material you will be feeding. A 6”x8” ziplock is a typical container.

Do I need to use a probe?

It is up to you. You will get better results (that is, closer to the actual nutrition of the bulk of material) by using  a probe.  Also if we receive material that needs further processing because it is predominantly 4” pieces or longer a special preparation charge will apply. Any rocks or metal bits are a hazard to our employees and equipment and when found the sample will be rejected.

How do I get sample to you?

Courier or Xpress Post are the most common ways. If you want to drop it off our “storefront” is the UPS store near Sarcee Tr. and Country Hills Blvd NW.
